In 2019 Michael Nisbett, (Uncle Mike to many) retired from Hunter College after 37 years of service. He was the director of the college’s Technology Resource Center. Under his leadership, the center expanded and developed many programs and initiatives. One of which was the Zabar Internship Program. This program hired computer science students and provided them not only financial support but mentorship and professional training as well.
Since 2008 Michael has served as a steering committee member for Hunter College’s Brothers for Excellence. The program’s goal is to support and mentor minority students as they navigate college life.
He also volunteers for iMentor, the web-based mentor program that empowers students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
When he is not mentoring his many mentees, he’s enjoying the outdoors, jogging, hiking, or camping.
Michael has the awesome blessing of being married to Lois for 41 years. They are the parents of two adult children, Robert and Jaclyn, and the proud grandparents of Kayla and Eric.
